Rio De Janeiro 2010

Enjoy what many consider to be the cultural capital of the world and home to the recently named 2016 Olympic Games. Rio de Janiero sizzles with a Latin vibe not to be missed and experiences that are unique to the city that hosts Carnival and adventure activities unparalleled anywhere on planet earth. Joined by thought leaders from around the world, students will have access to ground breaking leadership models and service learning opportunities. The Global L.E.A.D. Program will create a new global standard for service and learning overseas and empower students to become more rounded international leaders of tomorrow.

Through a unique learn-do model, students will have the opportunity to earn upper level elective credit in Leadership and Service Learning both inside and outside the classroom to make learning come alive. To augment this knowledge, students will participate in Adventure and Diplomacy opportunities with our on the ground partners. In keeping with the purpose of the Global L.E.A.D. Program, the leadership and service learning courses offered will emphasize the culture and natural surroundings of Rio de Janeiro. An extreme effort is made in both courses to re-inforce the classroom instruction with the rich cultural surroundings by having students participate in field trips and out of classroom activities.

In keeping with the innovative and dynamic mission of Global L.E.A.D., we will also stretch the imagination of each student on trips to Sugarloaf mountain, Christ the Redeemer statue (one of the New 7 wonders of the world), a 200,000 person soccer stadium, and a unique opportunity to serve alongside street children in the favelas (slums) outside of Rio de Janeiro.

The Global L.E.A.D. Program offers spacious accommodations within walking distance to the beaches, cafes and restaurants of Copacabana and Ipanema. Located in the heart of the upper-class section of Rio de Janeiro, the area provides easy access to all areas of the city while providing a safe and convenient neighborhood ambiance. All accommodations are hotel-style housing in tourist-friendly areas with all amenities and services provided.
