Transient Student FAQs

How will the Leadership & Service Learning courses be graded?

The courses offered on Global LEAD experiences are graded by University of Georgia professors in the following manner:

Leadership and the Arts & Sciences:  A–F

Service Learning and the Arts & Sciences:  Pass/Fail

However, each student’s home university has autonomy regarding how the grades will be transferred.  Global LEAD encourages all students to speak with their academic advisor for more specifics regarding credit and grade transfer.

What requirements do the classes fulfill at other Universities?

Global LEAD study abroad experiences deliver two courses:  Leadership and the Arts and Sciences and Service Learning and the Arts & Sciences.  Each class typically satisfies three hours of upper-level elective course credit for a total of six hours.

Is the HOPE scholarship or other financial aid able to be used to offset tuition fees?

For all University of Georgia students who are currently receiving the HOPE Scholarship, tuition can be used to offset tuition fees associated with Global LEAD courses in the same manner as it would for classes taken on campus.

For transient students who currently attend a university that offers the HOPE scholarship, tuition can be used to offset fees associated with Global LEAD courses.  HOPE will be awarded by the University of Georgia and will be based on the tuition rate for the six hours being taken. However, a student’s home institution must first communicate to the University of Georgia that the student is eligible in order to make this award.

For transient students who currently attend a university that does not offer the HOPE scholarship, they are unable to apply the scholarship, even if they are originally from the State of Georgia.  All out-of-state students and transient students from non-HOPE schools will pay the University of Georgia’s in-state tuition rate for the summer programs.

Student must contact their home Financial Aid office as soon as they decide to apply to Global LEAD. The Financial Aid office can provide the best guidance on their specific procedures. Federal aid and loans will still be distributed directly by the student’s home institution, subject to their policies.

What tuition fees are associated with the courses?

The University of Georgia’s summer tuition is not posted until April 2013; however, we estimate the cost to be approximately $1500 for the six hours of credit in 2013 (in and out of state students).  Additionally, UGA charges students a technology and student package fees. Global LEAD will post the exact cost of tuition and all other fees when they become available.

Also, students who are not Georgia residents nor currently enrolled in a University System of Georgia institution or a member school of the Southeastern Conference will need to pay an additional fee of $250. This amount will be charged to their University of Georgia student account in addition to tuition fees.
