LEAD Local
The Global LEAD curriculum and philosophy emphasizes the importance of bringing it home from the very beginning. We aim to create life-changing experiences with lessons that enable you to make an impact thousands of miles away and in your own backyard. To honor this mission, Global LEAD offers a variety of programs stateside to continually invest in our young LEADers:
Service Days: Global LEAD creates and organizes service days on college campuses. We partner with other leadership and service-focused organizations to deliver an effective and far-reaching result. On September 11, 2011, Global LEAD joined Dawg
Camp and the Center for Leadership Studies to present “Serving Those Who Serve at the University of Georgia,” a day devoted to honoring teachers, emergency responders and medical providers who devote their lives to service in their community. Students completed projects for Barrow Elementary School, painted banners with one handprint for every victim of 9/11 and wrote messages to active servicemen and women. “Serving Those Who Serve” is just one example of how Global LEAD encourages giving back to our local communities.
On December 15, 2011, Global LEAD family and staff members threw a holiday party for the afterschool program students at Drew Charter School in East Atlanta. With holiday art projects, games and treats as well as a special appearance by the one and only Hairy Dawg, Global LEAD was able to bring the holiday spirit to these children. In addition, donations from participants were used to adopt a local family in need and provide them with warm winter clothes and toys.
Leadership Events: Leadership skills need to be continually honed in order to be effective. Global LEAD offers opportunities to continue learning about leadership as well as your own personal strengths and weaknesses well after you have returned from an experience abroad . Diplomacy Day with legendary SEC football coach Vince Dooley is one example. During this annual event, Global LEAD invites student leaders to Sanford Stadium to hear leadership
lessons from speakers including Coach Dooley and Chik-Fil-A representative Shane Todd. The chance to walk on the grass at Sanford is not a privilege that all students receive; we are happy to honor the leadership and commitment that these Global LEADers demonstrate everyday.
Socials and Family Reunions: While sharing a room in Santorini, Cape Town or Quito, LEADers get to know each other on a deeper level and often leave the experience with newfound best friends. Global LEAD plans lively social events to keep them connected back at home. Whether we are watching the Braves win their 10,000th game at Turner Field, taking in a laser show at Stone Mountain or hosting a festive holiday party, Global LEAD will keep your social calendar full. We are sure to plan dinners, coffees and lunches with our Global LEAD Family (our term for alumni) whenever we are back on their campuses. The people of Global LEAD make it what it is.
Other Service Opportunities: Global LEAD will also highlight other organizations’ philanthropies as great ways to get involved on campus and promote the virtue of servant leadership.
